TCA 2012: 'Gossip Girl' Heads to Style in Off-Network Acquisition
Style has snagged off-network rights to Gossip Girl, the network announced Wednesday.
Episodes, starting from the pilot, will begin airing on the female-skewing cable network starting Aug. 15 from 8-11 p.m. and will continue airing every Wednesday. An all-day Labor Day marathon has also been scheduled for Sept. 3.
From executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, Gossip Girl follows an omnipresent blogger who uncovers and fuels every scandal on the Upper East Side through texts and blog entries. The CW drama will enter its final season this October.
“As we enter the sixth and final season, I'm very excited that Style has provided an opportunity for viewers to relive this story from the beginning,” said Schwartz in a statement.
The news comes months after Style unveiled a new logo and tagline, "Work It. Love It. Style It.," as part of NBCUniversal's rebranding efforts for some of its properties. In early July, another NBCU-owned property, E!, debuted its new look and "pop of culture" motto.
Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle co-star in the series, produced by Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. TV and CBS TV Studios.
