Grammys 2015: Sam Smith Wins Record of the Year
"Stay With Me" was not only the song of the year by the Grammy's best new artist, but also won record of the year
In addition to being the best new artist, Sam Smith took home one of the top honors at Sunday's 57th Grammy Awards: Record of the Year.
The musician won the award for "Stay With Me (Darkchild Version)," over "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, Sia's "Chandelier," Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" and "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainor. The win capped off Smith's domination of the major awards, coming immediately after his acceptance of the song of the year Grammy and two other wins Sunday night.
"Thank you all, this is the best night of my life," he said onstage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "Just a quick one, I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four grammys!"
This year, Smith and Beyonce were tied for the most nominations with six, but Smith has more in the major categories. Still, Beyonce's six nods have officially made her the most Grammy-nominated woman in history.
