Gravitas Picks Up SXSW Doc 'Sneakerheadz'
The film, directed by David T. Friendly and Mick Patridge, will appear in theaters and on VOD through a deal that also involves AT&T, Complex and Submarine.
Gravitas Ventures, AT&T, Complex and Submarine Deluxe are partnering to release Sneakerheadz, a documentary about sneaker collecting directed by David T. Friendly and Mick Partridge. The film, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, will be released day-and-date in theaters and on VOD in the fall.
In addition to playing theaters, it will debut on AT&T U-verse Video on Demand, the U-verse mobile app and on Uverse.com. Exclusive content and behind-the-scenes material will be available on Complex.com.
Sneakerheadz examines the cultural influence of sneaker collecting around the world. It was written, produced and co-directed by Friendly (whose producing credits include Little Miss Sunshine and Big Momma’s House along with Partridge) and executive produced by Christopher C. Chen, Michael Finley, Andy Friendly, Stephen P. Rader and Wale. Complex founder and chief branding officer Marc Ecko will join as an executive producer on the film.
Featured participants in the film include Jeff Staple, Frank the Butcher, DJ Clark Kent, Rob Dyrdek, Jeremy Guthrie, Samantha Ronson, Futura, Wale, DJ Skee and Hommyo Hidefumi.
The deal was negotiated by Nolan Gallagher for Gravitas and Dan Braun, David Koh, Josh Braun and Ben Braun from Submarine on behalf of the filmmakers.
