Gravitas Ventures Picks Up Jocelyn Towne's 'I Am I'
The drama will debut on Vimeo on Demand before a limited theatrical release.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired Jocelyn Towne's I Am I, starring the writer-director along with Kevin Tighe, Jason Ritter, James Morrison and Simon Helberg.
The film, which raised more than $100,000 of its funding from a 2011 Kickstarter campaign, will be released exclusively on Vimeo on Demand on May 13, and a limited theatrical release will follow in New York and Los Angeles on June 13.
The film follows a young woman, played by Towne, who meets her estranged father, Gene (Tighe), at her mother’s funeral. She later tracks him down at an assisted living home only to realize that he suffers from memory loss and mistakes her for her mother.
The film was produced by Jennifer Dubin and Cora Olson and executive produced by Towne and Helberg.
"I have been following this film since its inventive and groundbreaking Kickstarter campaign, and I'm really looking forward to working with Jocelyn on such a loving and affectionate film," said Melanie Miller, Gravitas vp acquisitions and marketing. It is the third film Gravitas has distributed for Dubin and Olson's Present Pictures.
The deal was negotiated by Miller for Gravitas and founder/CEO Nolan Gallagher, and by Dubin and Olson on behalf of the filmmakers.
