David Goldhill, former president and COO of Universal Television Group, has been named president and CEO of GSN, replacing Rich Cronin, who announced his resignation this month.

Goldhill, whose appointment is effective Aug. 1, will be responsible for all aspects of GSN's business, including its expanding multiplatform efforts.

"GSN is a well-distributed network with an established audience and strong support from cable and satellite providers," Goldhill said. "It is also a unique television platform in the rapidly growing casual game space. Our challenge is to extend and enhance our brand across the various platforms through which our audience watches and plays casual and skill games."

Goldhill is a senior adviser to Associated Partners, a New York-based investment firm specializing in media, telecommunications and technology. From 2000 through its sale to the Interros Group in December, he was chairman of the board of Independent Network Television Holdings Ltd., which built the TV3 television network in Russia. Goldhill had previously been CEO of INTH.

Goldhill was president and COO of Universal Television Group from 2002-04. In this capacity, he oversaw all operations at the company's domestic and international cable networks (including USA Network and Sci Fi Channel), cable and network television studios, first-run syndication business and worldwide television distribution.
