The fashion house announced the news on Wednesday.

After much speculation about who would replace Frida Giannini as Gucci's new creative director, the Italian fashion house has found her successor: Alessandro Michele.

Gucci confirmed the news via Twitter on Wednesday, although multiple reports had already noted on Tuesday that the luxury label was likely going to name Michele as the next creative director as early as this week. Michele, who currently serves as Gucci's head accessories designer, presented the brand's men's collection alongside other members from the design team in Milan on Monday. According to The New York Times, Michele was able to create completely new pieces in less than a week, following Giannini's early exit.

While there were rumors that Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci and Saint Laurent's Hedi Slimane were being considered to take the helm, Michele's appointment seemed to become more apparent once he was tasked to produce a brand-new collection for Gucci's menswear show. Given the sincere applause he received after the presentation, it sounds like Michele will do just fine in his new role.
