Fox Animation Teaming With Guillermo del Toro on 'Book of Life' (Exclusive)
The animated pic will hit theaters on Oct. 10, 2014; Fox also has dated Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" sequel.
Fox Animation Studios has come aboard to make Guillermo del Toro and Reel FX's adventure Book of Life, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Fox will open the film, which Del Toro is producing, on Oct. 10, 2014. Originally titled Day of the Dead, after the famous Mexican celebration, the movie's title is now Book of Life (Pixar has its own Day of the Dead project in the works).
Latin-themed projects are in hot demand; Hispanics are the most avid moviegoers in the U.S., while animated family fare can do huge business throughout Latin America.

Del Toro and Fox are keeping the exact logline under wraps. Mexican animator and filmmaker Jorge R. Guiterrez is directing Book of Life and, together with Reel FX, went to del Toro with the project. Guiterrez's credits include Nickelodeon's award-winning animated television series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera.
Del Toro is currently in post-production on Pacific Rim, which he directed for Legendary Pictures. Warner Bros. opens Pacific Rim on July 12, 2013.
At the same time as dating Book of Life, Fox dated director Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four sequel, which will hit theaters March 6, 2015.
Fox also has decided to release several high-profile titles in 3D, including The Wolverine (July 16, 2013), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (Aug. 16, 2013), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (May 23, 2014) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (July 18, 2014).
