Guy Adams Has Twitter Account Suspended After NBC Olympics Criticism
Guy Adams, L.A. Editor of "The Independent," has posting privileges revoked after a tirade ended with the email address of an NBC executive.
NBC has run into a bevy of criticism for its tape-delayed broadcast of the Olympics -- there's a Twitter hashtag, #NBCFail, dedicated to it -- and Guy Adams, the L.A. editor of The Independent, was one of the most vocal critics.
Until Twitter silenced his account.
Deadspin reports that Adams' account was suspended by the social networking service for a tweet he wrote that encouraged his followers to email Gary Zenkel, an executive with the network. He posted Zenkel's email address, which Twitter told Adams violated their user policy.
"Your account has been suspended for posting an individual's private information such as private email address, physical address, telephone number, or financial documents," a representative for the company wrote him in an email. "It is a violation of the Twitter Rules to post the private and confidential information of others."
The catch? Adams tweeted Zenkel's public, corporate email address, which is accessible to everyone on the internet.
Twitter and NBC are partnering for the first time during this summer's Olympic Games, creating speculation that NBC could have asked the social media network to shut Adams down.
