Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took the "new year, new you" mantra to heart on Wednesday, showing off some newly minted bangs at New York Mayor Bill de Blasio's inauguration. It seems that the forehead-covering 'do is a New Year's trend among the beltway's most powerful ladies: last January, Michelle Obama also debuted the style at her husband's swearing-in ceremony.
Though unlike Obama's polished look, Clinton's style is a bit more downtown with a healthy dose of side-swept shag action that feels modern and free.
The look, which caused a stir on social media, continues Clinton's long tradition of inadvertently shaking things up in the style world. At her husband's presidential inauguration in 1993, she wore a blue hat that the New York Times said made her look like "a chipmunk." She's also, of course, known for having a knack for smart pantsuits.
In addition to Clinton's hair, other noteworthy style news to come out of the de Blasio event includes a pair of Nanette Lepore coats worn by the new mayor's wife and daughter.
