Hamptons International Film Festival SummerDocs Series to Feature JT LeRoy, Herbalife Films
Alec Baldwin will lead post-screening conversations with the directors.
The Hamptons International Film Festival's SummerDocs series on Wednesday announced the lineup for its 2016 edition.
The movies screening at Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y., starting in July are: Author: The JT LeRoy Story (July 9 at 7 p.m.), Herbalife doc Betting on Zero (Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.) and A Perfect Candidate (Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.), the 1996 film about Oliver North's 1994 Senate campaign.
Alec Baldwin, who serves as HIFF co-chairman, will lead post-screening conversations with directors Jeff Feuerzeig (Author), Ted Braun (Betting on Zero) and R.J. Cutler and David Van Taylor (A Perfect Candidate). HIFF artistic director David Nugent will join Baldwin for the first post-screening talk.
“Now in its eighth year, the SummerDocs series has become one of the most anticipated and respected film events in the New York and Hamptons summer calendar,” Baldwin said in a statement. “We are proud to once again screen some of the best in documentary filmmaking to our audiences and provide an insightful look into the process in conversations with leading filmmakers.”
Added Nugent: “Each year we look to raise the bar and we're excited at the lineup of outstanding documentaries curated for the 2016 SummerDocs series. Each of these films encompass thought-provoking subject matter that will engage and entertain audiences. For the first time in the series’ history we’re also including a classic documentary whose political subject matter will allow for a fascinating discussion in this sui generis election year.”
Said HIFF executive director Anne Chaisson: “Our mission is to deliver a cohesive film program to our loyal audience throughout the year. Our popular summer season is integral in obtaining that goal and we are thankful to our partners at Guild Hall and the Southampton Arts Center.”
The fest also will offer free screenings of classic movies throughout the summer through a partnership with the Southampton Arts Center.
Films shown include National Lampoon's Vacation (July 15), Surf's Up (July 22), Rocky (July 29), The Candidate (Aug. 5), The Shining (Aug. 12), To Catch a Thief (Aug. 19), Tootsie (Aug. 26) and Jaws (Sept. 2). The pics will screen on the lawn at 25 Jobs Lane on Fridays at 8:30 p.m.
The festival's Student Summer Filmmaking Workshops, for kids ages 8 to 15, are also open for enrollment. The workshops will be held July 18-22 at Guild Hall and July 25-29 at the Southampton Arts Center.
