HandMade has titles in hand after Cannes

LONDON -- HandMade Films International, the production financing and sales arm of HandMade Plc., on Tuesday announced a company best $50 million-plus in sales at last month's Cannes market.

In a statement, the company said that the success of the market was driven by the strength of its two lead titles: a remake of "The Long Good Friday" and the CG-animated feature "Planet One."

In addition to robust sales, HandMade Films International also closed new output deals with a number of territories.

Sony Pictures Entertainment acquired North American rights to "The Long Good Friday" as well as several other international territories. More than 20 territories were licensed for "Planet One," including the U.K. and Italy, with distributors Entertainment Films and Italian International Films respectively.

The output deals reflected relationships solidified with MGN Paradise (CIS/Russia), VTI (former Yugoslavia territories) and ECS Film Distribution (Middle East) to distribute HandMade product produced or acquired in the next two years.

Multiple film sales were achieved with Lusomundo (Portugal), Odeon (Greece and Romania), Fida (Turkey), M Pictures (Thailand), Vision (Poland), Intersonic (Czech, Slovak and Hungary), Imigem (Brazil), PT Amero (Indonesia), Videocine (Mexico), Sam Film (Iceland) and Shaw Renters (Singapore).
