Todd Phillips and Green Hat Extend First-Look Deal with Warners
The "Hangover" helmer has re-upped with the studio for a two-year extension on their first-look deal.
The Hangover director Todd Phillips and his Green Hat Films have signed a two-year extension on his first-look deal with Warner Bros.
In addition to working on closing the deals to make Hangover 3, Green Hat is working on four projects that have been set up at the studio: Mule: an adaptation of a Tony D’Souza novel about a young couple who turn to drug trafficking to make it through the recession, which Phillips will produce with Green Hat’s Scott Budnick and Jamie Petricof and Lynette Howell's Electric City Entertainment; Arms And The Dudes, based on a Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawson that follows two stoners from Miami Beach who become big-time arms dealers, until the Pentagon turned on them, which Philips and Budnick are producing with Mark Gordon and Brian Zuriff; The Island, a project with a story by Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas, and a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, who worked with Green hat on Due Date with Phillips producing and Budnick executive producing: and Million Dollar Strong, based on the YouTube and FunnyOrDie sensation What’s It Gonna Be by Mike O’Connell and Ken Jeong. On Strong, Phillips will produce with Budnick and Management 360 executive producing and Mike O’Connell and Peter Kline (The Living Wake) writing the screenplay.
Phillips' Warners deal, which began in 2005, after he made Starsky & Hutch for the studio, will now run through the end of 2013.
Phillips directed, co-wrote and produced The Hangover Part II last year, which grossed more than $581 million worldwide. The sequel bested the 2009 original, also directed by Phillips, which grossed $476 million. He also directed 2010’s Due Date.
“Todd’s been a cherished member of the Warner family for a long time, and the comedic genius he’s brought to the big screen has made for an extraordinarily successful partnership,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov in a statement. “We’re excited to extend our relationship and eagerly anticipate more great movies from Todd and Green Hat."
