Hans Zimmer Composes Song for Aurora Shooting Victims
Proceeds from the "Dark Knight Rises" composer's piece, titled "Aurora," will be donated to a Colorado charity established to assist the victims and their families.
In the hours after the deadly shooting in Aurora, Colo., Hans Zimmer took to his Facebook page to express his grief.
"I am devastated by this tragedy, and my heart is with the victims, survivors and their loved ones," Zimmer wrote. "Words fail me."
It was his score playing in the background when the gunman opened fire on the audience who had filled a suburban Denver theater for a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, and Zimmer felt a particular obligation to express his solidarity with the victims and their families and to reach out to them with some sort of concrete support.
So he did what composers do best: He turned to music and created a piece called “Aurora,” which he dedicated to those who lost their lives in the massacre and to all those affected in any way by the tragedy.
"I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families," Zimmer said in a Facebook post.
The song can be downloaded from iTunes. All of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Aurora Victim Relief organization through Givingfirst.org. The piece can also be heard on MoonToast.
