Zimmer launches a joint venture with Sony/ATV for his Bleeding Fingers Custom Music Shop, which marks his official entrance into television arena.

Just call motion picture composer Hans Zimmer the $22 billion man.

That’s the total box office gross of the 100 or so movies he has scored, earning him an Oscar (The Lion King), two Golden Globes, three Grammys, an American Music Award and a Tony.

And now, Zimmer has increasingly turned his talents to television, specifically reality television, collaborating with producer Mark Burnett on scores for Survivor and The Contender as well as the recent made-for-TV series The Bible.

Composing music to such current films as Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, Ron Howard’s Rush and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, Zimmer took some time out from his busy schedule to launch his latest project, The Bleeding Fingers Custom Music Shop, a joint venture between Extreme Music, the production music arm of Sony/ATV Music Publishing and RCI Global, the company he co-founded with Steve Kofsky, at Hollywood’s SoHo House earlier this week.

Bleeding Fingers ceo Russell Emanuel and chairman Kofsky presented a discussion between Zimmer and Burnett to a standing room only crowd. The two formed a mutual admiration society, holding court while discussing their work, showing examples of Zimmer’s work on The Bible, Survivor and The Contender.

Burnett drew applause from the industry crowd by declaring he won’t cut costs in assembling a professionally produced score because he finds it a sacred trust that he gets into millions of homes with his productions each night, and won’t sacrifice quality.

"Music is indefensible," said Zimmer. "Either it resonates with you or it doesn't. And if it doesn't, what's the worst that can happen? I get a chance to write another piece of music. Isn't that what I set out to do in the first place? So, it's all good."

Earlier in the week, Bleeding Fingers announced the Hans Zimmer Wants You!! Winner of a contest powered by SoundCloud: a talent quest designed to uncover the next composer to join the company’s roster of talent. The winner, Daniel Suett, was announced on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday, May 4. Zimmer stressed the fact he enjoyed the parallel between rewarding an unknown for his passion and the stardom bestowed on ordinary people in the kind of non-scripted programming chapioned by Burnett.

Housed in a brand new facility in Santa Monica, The Bleeding Fingers Custom Music Shop is assembling show-specific libraries and score for unscripted, reality, documentary and light drama television productions. The goal is to harness its parent companies’ unique skill sets, reputations for excellence and industry renowned  production values.

Bleeding Fingers has already successfully scored shows including Survivor XVIII, Boston’s Finest, Duck Dynasty, Mountain Men, Hatfields & McCoys: White Lightening, Catfish, True Life, The Men Who Built America, and has earned both ASCAP and BMI Awards for the History Channel’s Mountain Men.

“Bleeding Fingers’ prime objective is to create music without compromise, using a production ethos and quality previously unattainable by a custom music house,” says Zimmer.
