Hanson to Release 'Mmmhops' Pale Ale
Merchandize sales related to the band's brew will go toward Oklahoma tornado relief.
Hanson, the band, is turning 21, so naturally the trio is celebrating with a beer. Their own beer. The long-in-the-works brew, a pale ale dubbed Mmmhops after their signature hit "Mmmbop," will make its debut this fall on tour while they promote their new album Anthem.
Brewed in partnership with Oklahoma craft beer outfit Mustang Brewing, Mmmhops will debut sooner than expected because the band wanted to use it as a tool to raise money for their home state, which was battered by killer tornadoes last week.
According to the band's rep, proceeds from sales of Mmmhops-related merchandise -- but not the beer itself -- will be donated to the Red Cross disaster relief fund. Those items, including various shirts and a beer glass, are on sale now on the band's website.
"The tragedy hits close to home, especially since this community was among the first places our band performed together, including schools which were lost in the storm," Taylor Hanson said in a statement. "We are hopeful that the proceeds we can galvanize will play a lasting role in the recovery efforts."
Anthem, the group's sixth studio album, hits shelves on June 18. Earlier this month Taylor told Billboard the set has "a lot of big sounding songs" on it. "We really thought of the audience when we did them -- we imagined the interaction with the crowd."
