Theater Chain Won't Play Fox's 'The Watch' in Revenue Spat
The midsize Southwestern circuit has 30 theaters in five states and is the dominant exhibitor in Phoenix; "The Watch," opening Friday, stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade.
Arizona-based Harkins Theaters won't be playing 20th Century Fox's comedy The Watch after asking for a bigger split of the revenues.
The family owned chain has 30 theaters in five states, and is the largest circuit in Phoenix.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an equitable agreement with regards to the film's licenseing fee with 20th Century Fox. It is our goal to always provide ultimate moviegoing at an affordable price for our guests and we hope to resolve the situation as soon as possible," Harkins said in a statement.
"In the meantime, we regreat any inconvenience that this may cause our guests. Moviegoers who have purchased advance tickets for the film may obtain a refund at the theatre box office," the statement continued.
The stand-off occured when Harkins demanded a bigger split of tickets sales. Fox said it wouldn't accept the new terms.
Neither side would comment on the situation.
The Watch stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade.
