Harris tapped for Montreal jury duty
EmptyTORONTO -- U.S. producer-director James Harris on Monday was named president of the international jury for the 31st annual Montreal World Film Festival, which gets underway Thursday.
Harris will chair a jury that includes Spanish screenwriter Javier Angulo Barturen, Quebec comic and actress Denise Filiatrault, Quebec film scholar Nathalie Katinakis, Argentinian actress Mia Maestro and Korean actress Kang Su-Yeon.
This year, 20 films will contend for Montreal's Grand Prix of the Americas, including Mark Brokaw's "Spinning Into Butter," starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Miranda Richardson, and "September Dawn," the Jon Voight-starrer from Christopher Cain (HR 8/8).
Also competing in Montreal is Abel Ferrara's "Go Go Tales," an Italian-French co-production starring Willem Dafoe, Bob Hoskins, Matthew Modine, Asia Argento and Lou Doillon.
Canada will be represented by Francois Delisle's "Toi," starring Anne-Marie Cadieux, and Emile Gaudreault's "Surviving My Mother."
The Montreal World Film Festival runs Aug. 23-Sept. 3.
