HBO has signed an exclusive television content deal with Japan's Star Channel, to which it already supplies such series as Game of Thrones and True Detective. The channel will expand its current movie offerings with Hollywood blockbusters in addition to being the exclusive home of HBO TV series.

Star Channel, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) and Tohokushinsya Film Corporation (TFC), appointed new directors in October, Keiichi Kosaka from TFC's Family Theater and Hiroko Ozawa from Sony-owned AXN Japan.

"At the re-branded Star Channel, we are committed to providing more than just content, but to offering value added services with a focus on originality and exclusivity, creating a unique community for cinema fans,” said Keiichi Kosaka.

The three Star Channels are offered as premium options by most of Japan's major cable and satellite operators.
