DreamWorks Animation's "Over the Hedge" scored an over-the-top victory on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending Oct. 22. The Paramount Home Entertainment-distributed release generated an estimated $65 million in consumer spending for an easy slide into first place on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart.

"Hedge" also fared surprisingly well in rental stores, bowing at No. 4 for the week on Home Media Retailing's video rental chart with an estimated take of $6.9 million.

It is the second animated children's film this month to score big on DVD following Buena Vista's "The Little Mermaid," which after three weeks in stores remains No. 4 on the First Alert chart.

Universal Studios' "The Break-Up" debuted at No. 2 on the sales chart and was the week's top renter, earning $10.2 million. The previous week's top seller and renter, Sony Pictures' "Click," slipped to No. 3 on the sales chart and No. 2 on the rental chart.

With Halloween near, 20th Century Fox's "The Omen" debuted at No. 5 on the sales chart and No. 3 on the rental chart. The horror remake came to video after earning $54.6 million in theaters.

Fox snagged another victory with the higher-than-expected bow of the direct-to-video sequel "Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil," which entered the sales chart at No. 11 and the rental chart at No. 13.
