Fox Atomic co-founder John Hegeman, who left more than two weeks ago when the label folded its marketing division, has been named executive vp and chief marketing officer of New Regency Prods.

In his new role, the 20-year industry veteran will oversee the film and TV production company's marketing strategy and its plans from theatrical release through ancillary distribution windows. He will report directly to New Regency's CEO Bob Harper.

"New Regency has a great slate of movies; I can't wait to join Bob and his team and get working on them," Hegeman said Tuesday. "It will also be nice to work with so many of my friends over at 20th Century Fox."

That slate lists "Jumper," with Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson; "Starship Dave," starring Eddie Murphy; and "What Happens in Vegas," with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher.

Hegeman was COO at Fox Atomic, which he co-founded a few years ago with Peter Rice, until this month, when the label announced it was moving its marketing operations to 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight, of which Rice is also president.

"We are excited to have John join our team," Harper said. "His ability to hit the ground running and work closely alongside the amazing marketing team at Fox adds an element of synergy and compatibility to our partnership with the studio."

Before Fox Atomic, Hegeman was president of worldwide marketing for Lionsgate, spearheading campaigns for such films as "Saw," "Crash" and "Saw 2." Before that, he held various positions with other companies, working on many high-profile titles including "The Blair Witch Project," "GoldenEye" and "The Silence of the Lambs."

Since 1998, New Regency has had an exclusive 15-year deal with Fox. Its films include this past weekend's boxoffice topper, "Meet the Spartans," as well as "Alvin and the Chipmunks" with Fox 2000.
