Helmut Newton Inspired Emma Stone's Bombshell SAG Awards Makeup

Bold lips, bold brows, can't lose.

Emma Stone has been a consistent fashion force on the red carpet this year, incorporating menswear details into her look and managing the right beauty choices to perfectly juxtapose first, her Lanvin pantsuit at the Golden Globes, and now a Dior dress topped off with a sleek and boxy black blazer.

“Her overall look is so graphic and so iconic,” says Chanel celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin, who created a beauty look that she says was heavily inspired by late '70s French style icons as well as the glamorous bombshells at the center of Helmut Newton photographs.

“She’s been exploring the whole menswear thing and doing something really different,” says Goodwin. “I wanted to create a makeup look that was really powerful and feminine at the same time. Something very glamorous, with glossy skin, golden creamy eyes, a powerful lip and strong brows. This was not a passive, ethereal look.”

Goodwin let Stone’s alabaster complexion shine by using foundation sparingly. “I used a really sheer foundation, Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 10 Beige, so her complexion would be incredibly fresh and dewy, not too done,” says Goodwin.

Though the overall look was strong, Goodwin says that she steered clear of any severe lines. “I glossed up her cheekbones and eyes, everything was really glisten-y and nothing was really hard.”

On Stone’s eyes, the makeup artist used Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in N°10. Applying with her fingers, Goodwin then used Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirage and finished by applying black liquid eyeliner very lightly onto the outer edges of her eyes.

Bold color came in the form of a vibrant red lip, which drew a striking contrast to her light skin and all-black ensemble. Goodwin used Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Gladiolus, which she says has a creamy, luxe feeling.

“She was really owning this makeup,” says Goodwin of Stone’s bold beauty look. “She is self-confident and I knew that she would 100 percent be able to pull it off.”
