In Her Shoes: A Chat With 'Mr. Right' Star Katie Nehra
The 'Mr. Right' actress dishes on her go-to footwear for the red carpet.
Katie Nehra currently stars as Anna Kendrick's BFF in the quirky comedy Mr. Right, now in theaters, but acting isn't her only forte. She's also written a feature film (Alex of Venice) and designs a collection of custom distressed leather and shrunken varsity jackets for her 10-year-old line, Simone. (Fans have included Mary-Kate Olsen, Nicole Richie, Kristen Stewart and Rachel Zoe.) In addition to playing actress, writer and designer, Nehra is often seen rocking the coolest footwear. During her film's press tour this week, we caught up with the triple threat to talk all things shoes.
What are your favorite pair of shoes of all time?
A pair of black suede vintage Charles David boots. They're from the '70s with metallic stripes on a removable strap. I got them when I was living in NYC. It's so hard to find good vintage shoes in a size nine, so they were a real score!
What shoes do you wear when you're writing?
I normally write barefoot or have on my favorite Elder Statesmen socks. You put them on and never want to take them off. They make the most yummy cashmere pieces! They are multi-stripe shades of blue and black.
Tell us about that time you designed a jacket for Rihanna.
I made her one of my Simone varsity jackets with 'RiRi' embroidered on the front, but I'm not sure she ever got it!
Speaking of RiRi, which one of your jackets would you pair with her new Manolo Blahnik thigh-high waist belt boots?
These are sick! I love them! My long 'Moto' would look amazing with these. These leather jackets go with anything and everything (or nothing at all)! It's so sexy to wear a leather jacket and nothing else. But, with these shoes, the long Moto is super casual, cool and a bit oversized, so it compliments the very structured shoes. It would be a good juxtaposition.
What are your favorite red-carpet shoes?
My current favorite red carpet shoes, I just got. They're Gianvito Rossi black lace ankle cuffs with a black strap. They’re so chic and tough at the same time.
One shoe I go to a lot on the red carpet, is a gold, black and leopard printed Louboutin heel. I wore them to the Vanity Fair Tribeca party and most recently to a pre-Golden Globes party.
Another one of my favorite shoes that I've worn on the red carpet were at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015 and they were Aquazzura. They were black suede, with neon blue leather and also had a snakeskin heel. They weren't the most comfortable, but they were totally worth it!
