H.K. film fest tickets flying
EmptyHONG KONG – The Hong Kong International Film Festival has sold more than 80,000 tickets in three weeks, selling out 50 screenings, organizers said Wednesday as they appointed singer-actress Sammi Cheng as an event ambassador.
Ticket sales for 2008 festival, which begins Monday, are on track to outdo last year’s sales.
Ann Hui, HKIFF vice chairman and director of festival film "The Way We Are," presented Cheng with a certificate and commended her work in promoting Hong Kong film.
Cheng, last seen in Stanley Kwan’s "Everlasting Regret," came out of a two-year-long sickness-induced semi-retirement last May for a series of concerts in Hong Kong. Formerly a prolific actress specializing in romantic comedies with a strong local flavor, Cheng’s first project in three years will be “Investigations of the Woman” with Eason Chan, scheduled for a mid-2008 release.
The 32nd HKIFF will begin Monday and end April 6. Three hundred films from 55 countries will screen during the three-week festival.
