The Mafia-themed film stars Paul Sorvino, Michael Rapaport and Chazz Palminteri.
Never mind 30 minutes or less.
For the first time in its history, the HollyShorts Film Festival will open with a feature film.
Festival alumni David Rodriguez’s dramedy Last I Heard will have its Los Angeles premiere on Aug. 15 at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
The film stars Paul Sorvino, Chazz Palminteri, Michael Rapaport, Renee Props, Andrea Nittoli and Lev Gorn and marks the first onscreen pairing of Mafia movie veterans Sorvino and Palminteri.
The ninth annual HollyShorts festival runs Aug. 15-22 and will feature more than 300 short films in competition. International and local next-generation filmmakers will descend on Hollywood for a week of screenings, galas, world premieres, panels and networking events.
Last I Heard follows a Mafia capo (Sorvino), who is released from federal prison for health reasons after serving 20 years. As he reconnects with his daughter (Props) and tries to build a relationship with his neighbor (Rapaport), he realizes life will never be what it once was.
"Our special opening night presentation is a prime example of how HollyShorts stands apart from any other shorts festivals in L.A.," said festival co-founder and co-director Theo Dumont. "We've seen a lot of fests lately put screening restrictions on filmmakers, telling them when, where and where not to screen, and we do the complete opposite. We strive to create fun and imaginative platforms for our filmmakers to network and advance their careers."
Added co-founder and co-director Daniel Sol: "We couldn't be happier to have such a talented filmmaker and superb cast be the first feature film to open HollyShorts."
