Hollywood Hits the Red Carpet

With his win for outstanding motion picture, For Colored Girls writer-director Tyler Perry was clearly the king of the 42nd annual NAACP Image Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium. But it was Prince who stole the show when he made a surprise appearance to present a starstruck Halle Berry with the best actress in a motion picture award for her role in the drama Frankie & Alice. Hosted by Wayne Brady and Holly Robinson Peete, the show boasted serious star power, with awards given to LL Cool J and Vanessa Williams and a special honor for former Secretary of State Colin Powell for public service. At the afterparty hosted by the SLS Hotel, nearly 1,500 guests enjoyed gourmet eats and mingled with rising stars like presenter Brandon T. Jackson, who said he was moved by the occasion: “As a kid from Detroit, to look out in the audience at all my heroes, it was just incredible.”
