Hollywood Hits the Red Carpet

A light drizzle didn't dampen the enthusiasm for the outdoor Disneyland premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, where Johnny Depp, free rides for guests and the screening all vied for top attraction. As at previous Pirates premieres, Depp skipped most of the press and focused his attention on the thousands of fans, whose shrieking took some getting used to by Rob Marshall, the franchise's new director. "I've never seen anything like this," he said as he too heard his name screamed. Marshall and Disney production topper Sean Bailey hit the rides, as did such guests as Vanessa Hudgens and Diablo Cody. One person not in the roller-coaster mood was Keith Richards. "I'm too old for that shit," he told THR. Disney's Rich Ross summed up the night this way, "This is probably the best ride in the world, what's going on right now." -- Borys Kit

The premiere of the romantic comedy Something Borrowed featured star Kate Hudson and screenwriter Jennie Snyder showing off their baby bumps at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on the wedding-themed "something blue" carpet. The Warner Bros. movie, based on Emily Giffin's best-selling novel, is "salacious, fun and complicated," star Ginnifer Goodwin said, and doesn't have a typical rom-com happy ending. Said Hilary Swank, who produced the movie with 2S Films partner Molly Mickler Smith: "To go to a movie and have everything work out, you just go, 'Oh well, that's not real.' It's nice to show a slice of reality."
