Mane Monday: Where Hollywood Kids Go for a Haircut
When Tinseltown's famous parents (Hilary Duff and Charlie Sheen included) want their little ones to have an A-list 'do, they take them to kid-friendly salon Tipperary in Beverly Hills.
The couture gowns, statement earrings, meticulously coiffed hair and perfectly painted faces on the red carpet may be at their height right now, but as a winner of one (or several) of these awards shows might say upon accepting their statuette at the podium: We can’t forget the little people.
Literally, we can’t forget the kids in this town who care (or have parents who care) about their hairstyle as much as the A-list celebrity planning an Oscar look with the help of an entire team.
Enter Tipperary, the children's hair salon in Beverly Hills that has given Tinseltown’s tots their mullets, bowl cuts, Mohawks and, recently, neon-colored streaks, since opening in 1972.
Here, clients get their hair done while perched in red airplane seats, rather than on a tufted chair in a suite at the Four Seasons like their parents, but they are no less discerning and on trend when it comes to the style they’re looking for.
“We’re definitely seeing a trend in longer, somewhat shaggy hair for boys,” says Tipperary owner Debby Parker. “Hilary Duff, Giuliana Rancic and Charlie Sheen’s boys have all been requesting short in back, long on top, and not very blended — similar to the guys in One Direction.”
When not emulating shaggy boy-band hair on celebs' kids, Tipperary stylists are said to be getting tons of requests for the “LOB," a la Taylor Swift, with very textured ends to give it a bit more style.
Parker says that the style is often finished with a spritz of Kevin Murphy Glitter Shine Finishing Spray, which adds more texture to separate the ends of the hair, along with some pop-star-worthy shimmer.
Perhaps most surprising are the little girls (Parker says it’s the five and under contingent) who are requesting pixie cuts to look like Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway. Quite a bold look for a group devoted to Frozen and long Disney princess-esque hair. Maybe now that Lawrence and Hathaway are growing out their locks, the pint-size pixies will follow suit.
