TORONTO - Los Angeles production workflow outfit DAX is following the money as it launches a Canadian beachhead.

As Hollywood producers increasingly set up in Canada in search of generous film tax credits, and private broadcast dollars fuel an indigenous TV series boom, DAX, formerly Sample Digital, has opened its first international office in Toronto.

Thomas Walden, a former Revenue Canada tax auditor and veteran film and TV executive, will head up the Canadian entity as managing director.

DAX will target U.S. producers shooting north of the border or Canadian producers and broadcasters looking to tap homegrown tax credits.

Despite a high Canadian dollar, a 25 percent all-spend film tax credit in Ontario and Quebec has had U.S. TV series such as NBCl’s Defiance, CW’s Supernatural, Netflix’s Hemlock Grove and Gaumont International’s Hannibal shooting north of the border.

And Hollywood movie production here includes recent big budget shoots like Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall remake and Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim for Legendary Pictures set up at Pinewood Toronto Studios.

Canadian players already on board with DAX include broadcasters CBC, CTV and Global Television, and indie producers Entertainment One, Take 5 Productions and Lionsgate
