Hollywood Reporter Announces Two Senior Editorial Hires
Jon Frosch has been named reviews editor, and Bryan Bishop has been tapped as news director, THR.com.
The Hollywood Reporter on Monday announced two new additions to its senior editorial staff: Jon Frosch will serve as reviews editor, and Bryan Bishop will serve as news director, THR.com.
Both begin July 14 and will be based in Los Angeles.
"Bryan and Jon are proven impact players in their fields," THR executive editor Matthew Belloni said. “We're thrilled they are bringing their experience, strong relationships and tireless work ethic to help The Hollywood Reporter build on its success."
Frosch most recently was film editor and critic at FRANCE 24, where he began as a general assignment reporter in 2009. Previously, he served as online editor at the International Herald Tribune. His writing has appeared in leading publications including The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Village Voice, LA Weekly, The Stranger and Film Journal International. Frosch will relocate from Paris and will report to Belloni.
He will be charged with overseeing THR's world-class reviews of film, television, theater, music and other media both in print and online. THR's global team of film critics, led by chief critic Todd McCarthy, reviews hundreds of films each year, from major blockbusters to obscure titles, including leading coverage of every major international film festival. THR's TV criticism, led by chief critic Tim Goodman, provides the publication's influential take on the expanding global world of television. And THR's theater reviews, led by lead theater critic David Rooney, canvass from Broadway to off-Broadway and beyond.
Bishop most recently served as film and TV editor at The Verge, Vox Media’s technology, science and culture website, and was part of the original editorial team that launched the site in 2011. Bishop later launched The Verge’s entertainment section and oversaw the site’s West Coast news operations. He will be charged with managing THR.com’s industry-leading breaking news operations and with further expanding the site’s editorial offerings. Bishop will report to Will Lee, vp digital content and programming, and Belloni.
The hires come on the heels of THR's six awards — including best news website — at the Los Angeles Press Club's 55th Southern California Journalism Awards last month. THR also recently received its first-ever Emmy nomination — for its Wolf of Wall Street roundtable featuring Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill — and its first-ever nomination for a National Magazine Award for General Excellence.
