EXCLUSIVE: Hollywood Talent Heading South for Revenge Film 'The Jesuit'
Tim Roth is among the four new faces to join the cast.
MEXICO CITY -- Actors Tim Roth, Brian Cox, Tommy Flanagan and Neal McDonough have boarded The Jesuit, an English-language revenge thriller shooting in Mexico.
Upstart production company BN Films is producing The Jesuit with Mexico's Itaca Films. Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver screenwriter) penned the script and is executive-producing alongside BN co-founder Alex Garcia (Elite Squad), Santiago Garcia Galvan (Under the Same Moon) and Jose Martinez Jr.
The Jesuit stars Mexican actor Jose Maria Yazpik (The Burning Plain), who plays an ex-convict forced to take matters into his own hands after his wife is killed and his son is kidnapped. Also headlining are Shannyn Sossamon (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Paz Vega (Spanglish).
Up-and-coming Mexican helmer Alfonso Pineda Ulloa is directing.
With offices in Santa Monica and Mexico City, BN Films was founded by producer and film financier Garcia and Argentine producer Lucas Akoskin. The company launched this year with a $150-million production fund and is planning to produce at least six films a year in various languages. Katrina Wolfe, former svp of casting and production at Dimension Films, is overseeing development and production of BN Films' English-language features.
BN Films has completed seven films and says it has many more in the pipeline. Among its finished works is the Colombian foreign-language Oscar submission The Snitch Cartel (El Cartel de los Sapos).
BN also is producing Heartbeat of the World, four themed feature-length pictures consisting of a collaborative effort of shorts from renowned directors. Production has wrapped on the first installment, the religion-themed Words with Gods. The films feature segments from talent such as Serbia's Emir Kusturica (Underground), Japan's Hideo Nakata (Dark Water) and Mexico's Guillermo Arriaga (The Burning Plain).
