"Newhart" will become the latest classic TV series to debut on DVD when 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on Feb. 26 releases Season 1 of Bob Newhart's 1980s sitcom. The series bowed in 1982, four years after the end of his previous sitcom, "The Bob Newhart Show," and was nominated for 25 Emmys during its eight-season run. The collection includes all 22 episodes as well as three behind-the-scenes featurettes.
MGM Home Entertainment on March 4 will release the 50th anniversary edition DVD of "12 Angry Men," the celebrated courtroom drama directed by Sidney Lumet that stars Henry Fonda and was nominated for three Oscars, including best picture. The DVD includes a making-of documentary as well as a new featurette.
Echo Bridge builds
Independent film and DVD distribution company Echo Bridge Entertainment has secured a new financing arrangement with JPMorgan Securities to fund its aggressive acquisitions strategy for 2008 and beyond. Echo Bridge CFO Tom Hammond said the company is looking to buy a wide range of product, "from individual shows and movies to large libraries and companies." Echo Bridge, founded in 2003, owns or controls a library of more than 3,500 titles.
NL ups Abele
New Line Home Entertainment has promoted Laura Abele to senior vp marketing. She will oversee the marketing of New Line Home Entertainment's next-generation/high-definition releases as well as the company's theatrical and catalog product. Abele came to New Line in 1998 and was vp marketing.
