WHV picking

Warner Home Video has secured worldwide home video and television rights (excluding Japan) to the new Japanese anime film "Appleseed: Ex Machina," produced by John Woo and directed by Shinji Aramaki. The film will be distributed by the video unit in 2008 on standard DVD and high definition. A two-disc collector's edition, with additional bonus features, will be released at the same time.



Uni ups Emrey

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has promoted Tom Emrey to executive vp and COO. Emrey, who was CFO, continues to report to division president Craig Kornblau. The move is part of Uni's ongoing restructuring following the announcement last month that the studio's global digital activities would move under Kornblau.



Sony moves

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has promoted Matt Brown to executive vp international, reporting to president David Bishop. Brown was executive vp Europe. Simon McDowell has been appointed senior vp and GM, Europe, for the division. McDowell reports to Brown.



VDI adds vid label

Global independent VDI Entertainment has formed a U.S. video label, MediaLink Entertainment. The label has entered into a subdistribution pact with Koch Entertainment and added industry veteran Don Spielvogel as vp sales. Initial releases include "Kids in the Hall: The Pilot Episode — Special Headcrusher Edition." MediaLink will focus on niche category and special-interest programming, with an emphasis on "brand development and strategic marketing," president Chris Lynch said.
