Arthouse Films has cut an exclusive output deal with Joe Amodei's Arts Alliance America to distribute its titles in the U.S. on DVD and through digital distribution. The multiyear deal calls for the release of 15-20 titles a year, beginning with the Berlin and Tribeca film festivals winner
"A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams & the Warhol Factory."
A special-edition DVD of the cult classic "Hudson Hawk" will arrive in stores Nov. 20 with two all-new featurettes with stars Bruce Willis and Sandra Bernhard. The Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release also will include deleted scenes and a commentary from director Michael Lehman.
Gaiam cleans up
Fitness and wellness DVD distributor Gaiam is going green. The company is ditching the industry standard Amaray "keepcase" in favor of eco-friendly paper packaging by Napco Inc. The initiative kicks off with the release of five new fitness titles, including "Kickbox Yoga Fusion."
"The Masterpiece Theatre Family Collection" is coming to DVD Oct. 23, courtesy of WGBH Boston Video. The set includes four classic films based on famous children's books, including "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" and "Pollyanna."
Warner Home Video has pegged "The Aviator" for Nov. 6 release on both Blu-ray Disc and
HD DVD. Both editions of the five-time Oscar winner will come with commentary from Martin Scorsese, a History Channel documentary, an additional deleted scene and a gallery of stills.
