'Horrible Bosses 2' Taps 'We're the Millers' Writers to Direct, Produce (Exclusive)
Sean Anders will step into the shoes vacated by Seth Gordon.
Sean Anders and John Morris, hot off of penning New Line’s surprise comedy hit We’re the Millers, have been tapped by the company to tackle its comedy Horrible Bosses 2. Anders will direct while Morris will join the project as a producer.
New Line was forced to conduct a director derby when Seth Gordon, who directed the 2011 original, fell out in early August due to scheduling conflicts.
Anders and Morris were in contention with such names as Todd Strauss-Schulson, according to sources.
Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jamie Foxx are set to reprise their roles in the workplace comedy.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who worked on the first movie, penned the original draft for the sequel. Anders and Morris recently did a rewrite. (The duo are clearly popular at New Line as they also penned a draft of Mean Moms, based on the book Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads.)
Brett Ratner and Jay Stern are producing while John Cheng, John Rickard and Diana Pokorny are executive producing.
Anders directed Sex Drive and That’s My Boy, the latter starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg. The duo is known for their comedy-writing work on She’s Out of My League and Hot Tub Time Machine. They also worked on Dumb and Dumber To, the upcoming sequel to the Jim Carrey/Jeff Daniels classic Dumb and Dumber.
Millers has grossed over $113 million, a nice chunk of change considering it only cost in the mid-$30 million range to produce.
Anders and Morris are repped by CAA, Mosaic and Morris Yorn.
