Hot 'Stalingrad' Director Signs With Resolution, Magnolia (Exclusive)
Fedor Bondarchuk had been heavily courted by CAA and others thanks to the hype surrounding his upcoming World War II epic, which will mark the first non-American movie filmed in Imax format.
Acclaimed Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk has signed with Resolution and Magnolia Entertainment.
The Moscow native had been heavily courted by CAA and others thanks to the hype surrounding his upcoming film Stalingrad, which will mark the first non-American movie filmed in Imax format.
Sony Pictures Releasing International will release the film in Imax 3D in Russia and in the Commonwealth of Independent States in October. The $30 million film is being hailed by those who have seen it for looking more like a $200 million tentpole. Stalingrad is an epic love story set against the backdrop of the famous World War II battle. A teaser trailer for the film was presented at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April.
Bondarchuk hails from Russian cinema royalty. He is the son of the late Academy Award-winning director Sergei Bondarchuk (War and Peace) and actress Irina Skobtseva.
He is also a successful director in his own right in his homeland. His film The 9th Company became the highest-grossing film in the country in 2005 and was Russia's official Oscar submission for best foreign film.
