HOT time for BVITV in Israel

LONDON -- Buena Vista International Television, the international TV distribution division of the Walt Disney Com., on Monday said it is has sealed a multiyear VOD rental agreement with Israeli cable outfit HOT.

The deal will deliver subscribers a range of current, upcoming and library movie titles across Israel on the company's HOT VOD Movies set-top box service, BVITV said.

The pact was unveiled Monday by Tom Toumazis, executive vp and managing director BVITV Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Alon Shtruzman, vp of content and programming at HOT.

This agreement falls in line with the Walt Disney Co.'s focus on the application of technology to enhance its content and expand its distribution and mark's Disney's first VOD agreement in Israel, BVITV said.

Through the deal, subscribers across Israel will be able to access movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films including such titles as "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," Tim Allen starrer "The Shaggy Dog" and "The Guardian," with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher.

The deal was hammered out by BVITV senior sales executive digital media Karen Wrankmore, BVITV sales manager Israel Michael Dick and HOT's head of content acquisition Dorit Baum and acquisitions manager Simone Hesselberg.

"We're pleased to be working with HOT both to bring their viewers this strong selection of our movie content and to help promote and grow the use of legitimate, quality download services across Israel," Toumazis said in a statement.

Added Shtruzman: "Disney's vast selection of blockbuster and library movies definitely establishes HOT VOD as the best movie-rental option in Israel."
