Shooting has begun on the The Day Will Come, the new Danish drama featuring a who's who of Scandinavian talent, including Lars Mikkelsen, who plays the Russian president in season three of Netflix's House of Cards

Soren Sveistrup, head writer on Danish crime series The Killing, which co-starred Mikkelsen, developed and wrote The Day Will Come. Jesper W. Nielsen, a director on Danish series Borgen and such features as Okay (2002) and Through a Glass Darkly (2008), is directing the Danish film. The Day Will Come is set in the 1960s. The plot focuses on two boys sent to a children's home who face off against the institution’s tyrannical headmaster, played by Mikkelsen.

The project reunites Mikkelsen with his The Killing co-star Sofie Grabol. Other Scandinavian stars in the cast include David Dencik (A Royal Affair), Sonja Richter (The Keeper of Lost Causes) and Lars Ranthe (The Hunt). Grabol also stars in new crime drama Fortitude, produced by Sky Atlantic, which airs on Pivot in the U.S.

The Day Will Come will shoot on location in Denmark for the next nine weeks. Peter Aalbaek Jensen, Sisse Graum Jorgensen and Louise Vesth are producing the feature for their Zentropa shingle.

Nordisk Film will handle distribution for the film in Scandinavia, with TrustNordisk taking over international sales.
