It looks like the Cold War between Kings of Leon and Glee creator Ryan Murphy has thawed. And it’s all because Gwyneth Paltrow played peacemaker.
To recap: After KOL turned down the show’s request to Glee-ify the song “Use Somebody,” Murphy blurted in a THR cover story, “F--- you, Kings of Leon,” and accused them of hating on arts education. The group’s Caleb Followill responded by explaining that KOL often refuses TV licensing requests and that it “was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show.” Bandmate Nathan Followill went one step further and fired back on Twitter, telling Murphy to “buy a new bra,” vitriol that Murphy termed “homophobic.” And the online battle was off to the races. But according to a source, Paltrow, a Glee guest star and close friend of Murphy’s (she starred in his 2006 film Running With Scissors), orchestrated a détente via text messages between the warring parties, both apologized and “it’s all good now.” Indeed, Glee’s Matthew Morrison approached KOL on the Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday, assuring the band that he and the show’s cast, “love Kings of Leon!” Proving it, Glee cast members Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet popped into KOL’s private after-Grammy party at Trousdale, where Criss was seen belting out the lyrics to KOL’s “Sex on Fire.” Neither Murphy nor the band would comment.THR's Daily Must Feeds
