Hulu Orders Second Season of 'Prisoners of War'
The streaming video service inks a deal with Keshet Media for the Israeli show that inspired Showtime's "Homeland."
LONDON – Keshet International, the global distribution arm of Israel's Keshet Media Group, has inked a U.S. deal with streaming video service Hulu for the second season of Prisoners of War, on which Showtime's Emmy-winning series Homeland is based.
Prisoners follows two soldiers who return home after being held captive for 17 years. While they try to readjust to their daily lives, it becomes clear they share a big secret.
The streaming service will push out the show this year, after providing a home for the first season.
Keshet also said it has struck deals with Netflix Nordics for the first season in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
And in Finland, free-to-air broadcaster YLE has acquired the second season.
According to Keshet, the second season scored a 40 percent average share, making it the most-viewed drama in Israel in 2012.
Other international networks that have picked up or aired the series include Sky Arts in the U.K.; Arte for Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland; SBS Australia; and Russia’s Weit Media.
Keshet International managing director Alon Shtruzman said, "We are very proud of the worldwide success of Prisoners of War, the various adaptations and the fact that the show was purchased in its original version to many territories proves the strength of a good story that relates to everyone."
