'Hunger Games' Fuels a Record-Breaking Quarter for Fandango
The company reports a 127 percent surge in ticket sales during the first quarter of 2012.
Fandango said Thursday that The Hunger Games helped propel Comcast's online ticketing company to its best first quarter in its 12-year history.
Fandango reported a 127 percent surge in year-over-year ticket sales and a 58 percent increase in monthly visitors to its Web site, which notched 33 million visits per month in the quarter.
Comcast doesn't break out actual financial results for Fandango, though the unit occasionally boasts of its quarterly growth without giving away actual profit, loss or revenue figures.

The Hunger Games, of course, wasn't the only reason for the record first-quarter results, given that it opened just eight days before the quarter ended, but it was a major factor. Fandango sold 22 percent of the tickets for the film's opening weekend and during peak periods it was selling 60,000 tickets an hour.
Also helping to fuel the growth was a 19 percent increase in the number of screens -- now at just under 20,000 -- that Fandango can sell tickets to. The company also inked a partnership with Yahoo late last month, wresting it away from rival MovieTickets.com.
