H'wood film fest adding comedy section

Event also planning to hand out awards in the genre

The 13th annual Hollywood Film Festival, which runs Oct. 21-26 at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, is adding a Hollywood Comedy Film Festival component to its programming to highlight the comedy genre.

It also will hand out Hollywood Comedy Awards as part of its awards lineup.

"We are very excited that once again we will be showcasing works of emerging filmmakers as well as recognizing those who are dedicated to the comedy genre," festival founder Carlos de Abreu said. "The selected films will be competing for the Hollywood Discovery Awards, drama and comedy, and the Hollywood Awards, drama and comedy, which will be honoring both new and established talent."

The Hollywood Comedy Film Festival Advisory Board includes agent Greg Cavic, producers John L. Jacobs and David Permut, managers Tim Sarkes and Christie Smith and director Robert B. Weide.

"We at the Hollywood Film Festival are aiming to ensure that comedy filmmakers' 'labors of love' pay off through an A-level platform for comedy," said Anthony D'Alessandro, senior programmer of the Hollywood Comedy Film Festival and Hollywood Comedy Awards.
