Hyde Park, Adlabs deal begins with 'End'

NEW DELHI -- Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment and Mumbai-based film company Adlabs Films on Monday unveiled a three-picture deal that kicks off with "The Other End of the Line," directed by James Dodson.

Starring Jesse Metcalfe, Sara Foster and Indian actor Anupam Kher ("Bend It Like Beckham"), the cross-cultural romance begins shooting next week. It is slated for release late next year and will be distributed by MGM in the U.S., with Hyde Park handling other territories.

"Adlabs wanted to expand outside India, hence we associated with Hyde Park to make mainstream Hollywood films, which will focus primarily on the U.S. market. We were very clear that we did not want to make crossover films," Adlabs managing director Manmohan Shetty said.

" 'End of the Line' is a mainstream Hollywood film," Shetty said. "After having made so many successful films, I am in a position to experiment a little. The primary reason for casting Indian actors is to showcase Eastern talent to the Western world. Hyde Park Entertainment wants to feature Asian talent, crew and directors to the Western world with a focus on India, South Korea and Japan."

The second film under the Hyde Park-Adlabs partnership will be "Street Fighter," based on the popular video game, which will begin production by February and is to be released later in the year by 20th Century Fox in the U.S., with Adlabs handling India distribution. The third film under the partnership will be announced at a later date.
