HONG KONG – Hong Kong telecommunications company i-Cable said Wednesday it has acquired broadcast rights for three seasons of two coveted soccer tournaments, the Union of European Football Associations Championships League and the UEFA Cup.

"The tournaments will go a long way to further enhance the attractiveness of our sports platform, on both conventional television services as well as new media, including Internet and mobile services," Ronald Chiu, executive director of i-Cable's sports programming arm, said in a statement.

The two UEFA tournaments will add a further 350 European football matches to i-Cable's expanding sports programming. I-Cable also has exclusive rights to the Beijing Olympics on all Internet and mobile platforms in Hong Kong, and recently bought rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

"With UEFA becoming our latest partner, we have established partnership relationship with all major sports governing bodies, who see in us the professionalism and determination to do justice to their crown jewels," Chiu said.
