IAC's Kaufman: Diller disparaged Malone
EmptyBarry Diller once called friend-turned-nemesis John Malone a "nightmare," according to IAC/InterActiveCorp. vice chairman Victor Kaufman.
On the third day of testimony of a trial over control of IAC, Kaufman said Diller's characterization of Malone, chairman of Liberty Media, was written in an e-mail to former General Electric CEO Jack Welch.
Diller, CEO of IAC, is seeking to split the company into five entities, a plan Malone objects to because it will shrink his voting stake from 62% to 30%. Welch is a consultant for IAC.
Kaufman told a Delaware Chancery judge that Diller had a problem with Malone's habit of "endless negotiations whenever we did a transaction with Liberty."
Also testifying Wednesday was Liberty CEO Greg Maffei, who said that Malone, while unhappy with some aspects of IAC's business, was unwilling "to tackle some of the issues" because of his friendship with Diller.
The trial continues Thursday.
