IFC is beefing up its original programming.
The cable network has moved forward with two new scripted comedy series: Comedy Bang! Bang! and Bunk (working title). IFC has handed out 10-episode orders for both half-hour shows to launch back-to-back in June as a new comedy block.
“With popular shows like Portlandia and Todd Margaret currently on our air and now the addition of Comedy Bang! Bang! and Bunk, IFC is quickly becoming known as a destination for top comedic talent,” said Debbie DeMontreux, IFC’s senior vice president of original programming. “These shows fit perfectly with IFC’s mission to create fresh, original, off-kilter comedies, and we’re thrilled to add them to our 2012 line up.”
Comedy Bang! Bang! is a sketch variety show that will feature celebrity guests, comedy sketches and animation. Hosted by Scott Aukerman (Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis) and based on his podcast of the same name, the series will also feature comedian Reggie Watts. Produced by Abso Lutely Productions for IFC, Aukerman, Dave Kneebone and Leo Allen serve as executive producers. Jennifer Caserta, DeMontreux, Christine Lubrano and Evan Shapiro also serve as EPs.
Bunk, discovered at the 2010 New York Television Festival, is a game show spoof created by Ethan T. Berlin and Eric Bryant and hosted by comedian Kurt Braunohler. Featuring a rotation of comedian contestants performing comedy challenges, Bunk is produced by Avalon Television. Berlin, Bryant, David Martin, Jon Thoday and Richard Allen-Turner serve as EPs with Braunohler and Dan Lubetkin as co-EPs. CAserta, DeMontreux, Erin Keating, Dan Pasternack and Shapiro are EPs for IFC.
