IFC Films stays 'Afterschool'

Antonio Campos film debuted at Cannes last year

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Antonio Campos' "Afterschool," which debuted at the 2008 Festival de Cannes.

Starring Ezra Miller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Rosemarie Dewitt, the film was produced by Sean Durkin and Josh Mond from Borderline Films in association with Hidden Street Productions.

Set in a New England prep school, it follows a withdrawn student who lives much of his life on the Internet, where he captures the sudden drug overdose of two girls.

It was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for best first film and for two Gotham Awards including breakthrough director and "Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You."

It will be released in New York on Oct. 2, following its debut as a VOD offering on Sept. 20.

Submarine's Josh Braun negotiated the acquisition deal with IFC's Arianna Bocco.
