CANNES -- The Ile de France will hear London calling Friday afternoon in Cannes when both regions' film commissions sign a partnership agreement.

IDF Film Commission executive director Olivier-Rene Veillon will join Film London CEO Adrian Wootton in Cannes' international village to sign a deal that will bring together both regions' production and postproduction savvy for industry events including October's Production Finance Market in London and Parisfx special effects event in December.

"It's a shame that the French and British don't work together more often. We really believe in this partnership. We have a lot to do together in many areas including finance, digital creation and the environment," Veillon said.

Both organizations have launched environmentally friendly initiatives in their respective countries -- Ecoprod in the Ile de France region and Green Screen in London -- and plan to join the two groups together for information exchanges and eventual collaboration.

"I believe this partnership represents an intelligent response to competition and collaboration, recognizing the similarities and differences between our respective organizations and indentifying some tangible initial areas we can work together that we hope to build on," Wootton said.

The deal marks the first time such an agreement has been signed between the two regions. Plus, Veillon added, "It's another good reason to take the Eurostar." The two regions will follow the signature by raising a glass to toast their new alliance.
