ImaginAsian, TWC ink vid distribution deal
EmptyPUSAN -- ImaginAsian TV on Monday announced a five-year home video distribution deal with the Weinstein Co.
"It's a tremendous commitment they are making," ImaginAsian CEO Michael Hong said. "They are the premier distributor for Asian titles, both in terms of reach and visibility."
TWC's home video subsidiary, Genius Products, will distribute ImaginAsian's large and growing library of Asian titles and original programming, while ImaginAsia will be responsible for marketing, packaging and nurturing titles.
"It is not good enough to pick the right titles anymore," Hong continued. "Now you need the right marketing solution. Imagin-Asian can provide the care and attention those titles deserve."
Hong said that the company has a shortlist of 15-20 titles it is aiming for and is planning to close deals on half of those by the upcoming American Film Market.
"We probably wont close the deals (at the AFM)," he said, "but this is the key market for us."
The key to the deal, according to Hong, is the mainstream access it will provide. "It will get us into the Wal-Marts and, more importantly, will give us endcaps to enhance our visibility," he said.
The first two titles Hong plans for release in the U.S. are the Korean film "Green Chain" and U.S.-Vietnam co-production "Journey From the Fall."
