Imax to add screen in China
On track for 41 screens in second-largest marketTORONTO -- Imax on Thursday signed a deal with China Film Group to open a super-size screen in a new multiplex in Tianjin, China, this October.
The deal brings to 41 the number of screens Imax expects to have by 2012 in China, its second-largest market after the U.S.
The giant screen exhibitor launched its first screen in fast-growing China in 2001 and has since branched out with deals to install screens in institutional and commercial venues.
"Imax is a well-respected brand that represents the advanced movie experience, and we strongly believe that working with Imax will give us a competitive advantage in our marketing development," Han Sanping, chairman of China Film Group Corporations, said in a statement.
Imax currently operates 351 theatres in 42 countries.
