The fourth title in the Lakeshore Entertainment franchise, which stars Kate Beckinsale, will be released on super-sized screens from January 20, 2012.

TORONTO -- Imax is super-sizing Underworld Awakening, the fourth installment in Sony Pictures Entertainment’s supernatural-action franchise from Lakeshore Entertainment, to screen from January 20, 21012.

The movie from creator Len Wiseman will be released in Imax digital theatres simultaneous with the film's worldwide release.

Underworld Awakening stars Kate Beckinsale as Selene, and marks the first title in the franchise to be released in Imax's 3D format.

"Underworld is one of Screen Gems' most important franchises, so it's important to us to present the movie as its fans want to see it: on the Imax screen," Rory Bruer, president of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing, said Thursday.
